Navy veterans were the most vulnerable to asbestos-exposure due to the large quantities of asbestos products used on the vessels. Veterans who worked majority of their time below deck have the highest risk for mesothelioma. Examples of asbestos-containing products that were used in the Navy include:
- Gaskets
- Brake pedals
- Flooring
- Vessel insulation
- Cement
- Adhesives used throughout vessel
- Piping/plumbing
