Thoracentesis
Thoracentesis

Thoracentesis can be considered as a diagnostic or a palliative procedure.. The fluid in the chest, between the two sides of the pleura (one being around the lung and the other around the inside of the chest wall)is removed by placing a needle into the chest cavity. Because pleural fluid can compress the lung and cause shortness of breath, this treatment method is helpful to improve the ability to breathe.
