Discarded asbestos-containing tiles were discovered by a group of volunteers while cleaning up their community. Asbestos is a known carcinogen.

Fresno, CA – Ninety Fresno Police Department employees might have been exposed to asbestos on Monday, September 21, 2009.
A construction work has been going on in the department building since September 14, 2008. Crews were installing fire-suppression equipment, when they realized they disturbed materials probably containing asbestos, a known carcinogen, around 12:00 p.m.

A woman is suing seven defendant corporations claiming that the asbestos-related illness that her recently departed husband had developed was caused by the negligence of these companies.

SCHROON LAKE – Schroon Lake Central School officials are planning to reopen the building Thursday. The school was closed Wednesday for cleaning up asbestos from behind the wall of a bathroom.
According to Superintendent Michael Bonnewell, if air test results indicate no asbestos contamination, classes will resume Thursday itself.
