Asbestos removal from Ohio School will cost 1M
According to a latest report, the removal of asbestos, a potential cancer-causing substance, from the old West Elementary School building in Youngstown, Ohio, will cost one million dollars.
This is the latest estimate given on the asbestos removal project. The price may appear extremely high, but the fact is that it is far lesser than the initial estimate given. According to Tony DeNiro, the assistant superintendent for school business affairs, the expense as per initial estimate was over two million dollars.
An initially-conducted survey stated that the plaster in the walls contained a lot of asbestos. This was the reason why initial estimates showed a huge amount for asbestos removal. Later, it was confirmed that the levels of asbestos at some walls are low and acceptable.
Asbestos is a substance that needs to be removed with extreme care under controlled conditions because the material can be deadly if it is broken or disturbed and its particles become airborne. Inhalation of asbestos particles may result in mesothelioma, an incurable cancer, or other severe health issues. The removed asbestos should be disposed of in an approved landfill. Only licensed professionals are supposed to do asbestos abatement.
